The title song is an incredibly catchy song with an infectious rhythm, a perfect hit and one of my all times favourite too. The b-side is an instrumental version of side A, just a filler.

This was the Yugoslavian band-aid that was involved in the global Live Aid 1985 project (actually, if you have the Live Aid 1985 quadruple DVD, you can find a bit of the video for this song). It was a really nice song, a lot of ex-yu musicians partecipated in it, and two of them refused- Goran Bregovic and Bora Djordjevic. The b-side is the instrumental version of the song.

This single is something you will all wonder about, and older ex-yu inhabitants will remeber well. This single was released a very short time prior to presidents Tito`s death, a death that meant the beginning of the end of Yugoslavia. This song was recorded to be played at Titos birthday, which came a bit too late. I remember me being a 11-year-old boy partecipating at the SLET (a kind of mass dance to celebrate the president`s birthday) in Pula.Well, the a-side has a very memorable song, and the b-side is just another Tito-worshipping song, both sung by the beautiful voice of Zdravko Colic.

This is a great song, both musically and lyrically.I don`t know much about ZAE, but this is probably a one-hit-wonder.And this is surely a hit.The single I have is the worst sound quality single I have ever heard in my life (not the version you can download here, of course), not because I have a really old copy, but because of the fact that the single sounds like it is made from an old damaged audio tape, unbeliavable (once I get the equipment, I will rip it for you to hear).The b-side is an easy song, very smooth and a nice one, not noticeable as the title track.

The next one is a single from Van Halen, exactly a single actually without a song written by the band!! Both songs are covers, both taken from their "Diver Down" album. The title track is a one you all know very well, the Roy Orbison`s megahit done in an excellent 101% Van Halen way, a perfect cover.On the flipside is what I call a "filler", a 1 minute long a-cappella song sung by all the members of the band.Nice single this one!

This is a very nice single from one of my all-times favourite singer, and his band I loved a lot.The title track is one of the best tracks from the "Double Trouble" album and surely a great track.The flipside is a live version of the killer track from "Future Shock" recorded live at the Reading Festival in 1981, and one of the songs that remained out of the "Double Trouble" album live selection (for those who don`t know, DT is a double vinyl album featuring one studio album, and a live album recorded at the Reading Festival in 1981.).Oh yeah, the DT album (the studio part) features todays Iron Maiden guitarist Janick Gers, who replaced Bernie Torme.All in all, an excellent single!

Here is the Yugoslavian version of Boney M from Sarajevo, with a very deep voice from the Sarajevo Opera house vocalist Mirza Alijagic and two girls.The title song is very catchy, and the interesting thing about that song is that the music is composed by the Hard Rock/Heavy Metal guitarist from Divlje Jagode, Sead Lipovaca.The flipside is a slow ballad, in this case nothing special to mention.A very nice piece.

This single is something I got from my parents, a beautiful ballad from this 70s English singer and songwriter, and this song is probably his biggest success.The cover is, as you can see, pretty damaged, but I am glad that the single is still listeneable.For your information, after he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1984,he continued to record albums in his home studio.He died in the winter of 2001 of pneumonia at the age of 57.

Now how many of you don`t know this hyperhit from the end of the 70s? Actually, it would be a better world if there were more songs as this one. The Buggles existed too short to testify: they were active for 5 years between 1977 and 1982, but only this song was their bright moment.An interesting fact is that the band contained members of big progressive-rock bands like Yes and Asia.As you know the a-side so well, on the b-side is another song from the same album, not that bad, but anyway not so epic and recognizable as the first song.A nice single.

Dee D. have nothing to do with the more known Jackson family in any way.It must be said right at the beginning.She was (she still is!) a beautiful woman from UK, which sang a kind of sci-fi Disco music, with a topic that makes her performance different from other disco music performers.This is the second hit-single from her first album Cosmic Curves, with the single version of the title track Meteor Man (the album version is slightly longer), a great disco cut.The second side contains a filler, nothing special, but the complete single is worth the title track.

Indexi from Sarajevo one of the first serious Rock bands from the ex-Yugoslavia, and as well one of the biggest and certainly most underrated comparing to Bijelo Dugme or Riblja Corba.Actually, Indexi were strongest in the period between 1967-68 and 1976, when the Yugoslav Rock scene started its explosion.
This single came from 1973, the period of their biggest popularity, and the title track was featured on the Vas Slager Sezone music festival 1973.A classic Pop-Rock track in the best late Indexi style, and the b-side features another touch of their Pop-Rock, but with a more rocking tune.I adore Indexi, so it is obvious I will say; beautiful single.

This is part of a serie that I will post here as a reminder of something very nice from the history of the Yugoslavian music scene. Yugoslavia has a Music magazine called DZUBOKS (phonetically written Jukebox) and in a part of the 60s, this magazine had FLEXI DISCS included in it with tracks or hits actual in the world`s music scene.I have some of these discs (actually, I don`t know how many discs were released) and I am starting with The Shadows.
You all know The Shadows, they were more an instrumental band with those songs using Hank Marvin`s guitar instead of vocals.This song here is one of the few songs The Shadows had with vocals, and what is most important, the song had a Croatian author and was played on a music festival in Split in 1967!So here is this song, for the people from the ex-Yu territory, known better as Beat Na Moru, the cover of this song played by Neno Belan in the 90s.

A very nice single from an old Dutch band, a band I know since I was a kid through a "Best Of" album.I accidentally found this single in a second-hand shop, as you can see the front cover is a bit damaged, and I had to erase the various writings on the cover (which I forgot to do on the b-side).This one is the German release.The title track is a mid tempo ballad with great vocals, and the second side contains a rocking track, both together a winning combination for this single.

Ok, let`s start this blog with a nice first post.This single is one of three singles released as solo singles by three members of Bijelo Dugme (Goran Bregovic, Zeljko Bebek and Ipe Ivandic), and this one is by the "boss" Goran.On the A side there is one of the most beautiful Bijelo Dugme ballads, "Ima Neka Tajna Veza" (there is a different version of this song featured on G.B.`s solo album, but this one is the official Bijelo Dugme version), a great Hard Rock ballad not featured on any official B.D. album, except for compilations and best ofs.The lyrics are from the Yugoslavian poet Dusko Trifunovic, and Goran and B.D. are helped also by the String Quartet from Zagreb.
On the flipside, a mid tempo rocking track "I Kad Prodje Sve, Pjevat Cu I Tad", a song not featured anywhere but here and on one compilation, surely a leftover to use for a single, so more or less a rarity.

That is it.The thing, the main idea of this blog is SINGLES , 7 INCH VINYLS.And the thing you see on the pic is a machinery that preceeded the walkman, portable cd player and mp3 player today.This was a portable single vinyl record player (the name in the title is taken from the italian word used for this thing it was called MANGIA (transl: eat) DISCHI (transl:records) , or translated as "record eater".From a net dictionary the definition should be "An analogue electronic device for playing gramophone records."

This is in the inside, so you can easily understand the mechanic part of it.And here is the video to show you how this thing worked:

Well, I used this beautiful thing as an introduction to this music blog.The main star of this blog is his Majesty the 7-inch-single.The most beautiful format of music you could possibly get; short-so you can listen to it all over again, or just listen to it just one time, without putting a whole album on.It was small, so you could easily put it everywhere (that`s why the mangiadischi was a great thing).It was always great, because it often had a hit on one side, and most of the time a b-side that could not be found on any vinyl, except on later compilations.It was part of Jukeboxesthose beautiful machines where you put a coin in, choose the song, press a combination of letters and numbers and..in front of your very eyes, the machine searches the vinyl, pulls it out of its position, put it on a plate, the needle goes on and you watch the record playing in while the whole bar is listening to YOUR chosen song.. Many of you today lost or never felt the joy of playing vinyls on a turntable/grammophone, or jukebox..

With this blog, I want to give a hommage to a certain piece of vinyl that made my life (and it still do) great.The single 7-inch record.I love also 12 inch albums, but the single is special.Truly special.This blog won`t be (as my other blog is) almost completely dedicated to Metal and Punk.This one will be the opposite.There still will be Metal and Punk stuff, but I will be focused on ALL kinds of music, from Folk to Grindcore to Classical.The only thing important here is : THE FORMAT.
